Summer Reading List

Time to Relax by the Pool or Beach?

Here are my reviews & picks for the summer!

What I've Read:

  • Into the Water - Paula Hawkins: This book was much anticipated by a lot of people, since it is the same author as Gone Girl, but personally I felt it was nothing compared to her original smash hit.  The book is a bit confusing, going back and forth between so many characters, and has twists and turns, but nothing THAT interesting.  I did want to finish it, but this wouldn't be my first recommendation by any means.
  • When Life Gives You Lululemons - Lauren Weisberger: This is the quintessential summer book in my opinion.  It is light & easy to read, but juicy and gets you hooked on the characters.  The book follows Emily, the hard to love assistant that starred as Andy (or Anne Hathaway's) not-so-friendly coworker in Devil Wears Prada.
  • Then She Was Gone - Lisa Jewell: Classic psychological thriller and I have to admit, I was not able to predict the big mystery.  Definitely not your pick-me-up kind of book but I couldn't put it down, loved the suspense throughout.
  • Spilled Milk - K. L. Randis: Although extremely real and very depressing, this was probably my favorite book in this list.  This is a true story of a girl who was mentally and physically abused by multiple family members for her entire child and adolescent life.  This book is extremely eye opening and a must read for all young women growing up in my opinion.
  • While You Were Sleeping - Kathryn Croft: Another physiological thriller in the list, this one with lots of mystery and suspense starting right from the get go after the main character wakes up in bed next to a neighbor, covered in blood.  You'll have to read to find out the rest!
  • The Light That We Lost - Jill Santopolo: This book was interesting for a few reasons.  It's segmented into many many short chapters, and written almost as a letter to the protagonist's past lover.  Although not necessary a gripping thriller, you will want to know how the love story ends, and how the other characters' lives are changed and shaped throughout.  A very easy read.
  • Crazy Rich Asians (First book in series) - Kevin Kwan: I didn't think I would like this book, and didn't want to give into the hype but it was so interesting and I almost compared it to watching a show like Real Housewives.  The lives of these people are so insane and over the top, and the family drama keeps it interesting.  I will definitely be reading the rest of the series, plus it is a movie now too - so lots to look forward to!

My List to Read:

  • Fail Until you Don't; Fight. Grind. Repeat. - Bobby Bones: So, I am OBSESSED with Bobby Bones, and this book is all about stories to motivate you.  So far I've just read the sample from Kindle but I immediately downloaded the full book and can't wait to start it, once I finish the next book on my list for one of my book clubs!  Can't wait to be motivated :)
