Our 3rd Anniversary/Tasting Menu Review - Blackbird

Happy Anniversary to us!!

This week we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary and since activities have to be a bit limited now, we were excited to do a nice dinner, just the two of us (well 2 plus a big bump)

We tried Blackbird in Fulton Market for the tasting menu and it was really fun and inventive. Our favorite courses were probably the beginning ones, the Summer Tomatoes, Olive Tart, and Crab were all absolutely delicious and super creative. I wasn’t able to have the Ahi Tuna course as it was meant to be, but they graciously adapted and cooked the tuna for me, which was great and so was the Sturgeon. I think that was the first time I’ve ever had Sturgeon and they prepared it with black garlic and licorice sauces that you could add to each bite, it was great! After that was our least favorite… sweetbreads. I don’t even want to tell you what it is if you don’t already know so lets just move on. The grilled lettuce and beef as well as the lamb were great, but I could have done with one less meat course at that point. For dessert, we had summer melons which all had a different sauce or flavor on top, and they were very unique, followed by a “funnel cake”, which was amazing, but we could’ve done without the tomato sorbet. Luckily, they brought out a dish of lavender gelato that was way better and then another candy/cookie (last picture) which was crazy! It was like hot and cold and soft and hard all at once, and had pop rocks on it, was such a fun surprise way to end the dinner! The service overall was great and the chefs clearly took a ton of time and effort into making it a great meal so we appreciated that.

To top it all off, I have more to look forward to, because Jared set up a Spa Day for us next weekend for some relaxation before baby. Can’t wait!!
